Within narratives passed down, all creatures have been presented as both blessed and evil; lucky and unlucky. Getting to reflect on these stories when you spot them connects us to the past and mysetrious natural world.

I started this project by looking at Ravens. Some examples of stories include:

Andalusian: unlucky if perched on your house. Three croaks results in death.

Highlands of Scotland: a white feather on a Raven, spotted croaking on your right, certain luck.

Norse: Odin’s messengers - Thought and Memory: see and know all.

Germany: the souls of the dammed, or the devil himself

Sweden: Souls of the murdered

Victorian England: if the ravens abandon the Tower of London, it’ll mean the downfall of Britain.

Tibet: acted on behalf of a supreme being.

Elements of these tales influenced the models. For example, the orbs the Light Raven has flying from its back are the memories being collected for the Dark Raven to sit upon, hoarding them like memories.
