Making a Fairy Circle

1) A quick timelapse of a long process! Made out of polymer clay, I used various tools to create texture of a woodland floor. I had a frame in mind to display this model in and so that gave me the oval shape I started with.
The woodland ground includes details like moss, roots and fallen leaves.
2) Adding mushrooms! I like mushrooms because they can all be a bit wonky, a bit natural, each one different. I wanted to have natural looking mushrooms as magical things can be found in the existing world
3) All the sculpting done. It gets baked in the oven now to harden the clay.

4) I primed the model with black and white spray primer, highlighting the ring to get an ethereal effect to help influence my painting. I then used model acrylic paints to add tones of natural colours. Initially I was a tad aggressive with my technique to loosen any bits of the model that weren't locked in that could potentially fall off later.

5) Working up colours and using oil washes to keep the depth of the model.
6) I have photographed this piece to make into prints and even a To-Do list/notepad
7) I then cut down the model to fit in a thrifted frame. Please get in touch if you are interested in adding this piece to your wall!
