Animal cruelty in circuses feels as if a thing of the past, but modern entertainments have replaced them. Elephant rides are very popular attractions for tourists, but cause great suffering for elephants. This made me think about the phrase "Born into the Circus".

In this piece, I hid elephant riding equipment as part of the animal itself and used plaster to texture the surface. The plaster crumbled as the puppet moved, replicating the horrendous injuries.
